DE.NBI/DE.STAIR TRAINING COURSE: Galaxy for linking Bisulfite sequencing with RNA sequencing

Seminars

This workshop intends to introduce the graphical, web-based Galaxy workbench to perform customized analysis of next generation sequencing data within the scope of RNA-Seq and Epigenetics. In practical tutorials, workflow development, differential gene and methylation analysis as well as Nanopore data processing will be introduced.

Date:

October 09-11, 2019

Venue:

University of Freiburg
Dep. of Biology
Schänzlestraße 1
79104 Freiburg

Registration:

This course is designed for ~15 participants. If we receive (a lot) more applications, we will choose participants based on the relevance of their application and/or a first-come-first-serve basis. Your attendance is pending until confirmation after registration.

Content:

The training course will introduce the Galaxy framework (https://usegalaxy.org), and showcase its tools for data handling and preprocessing, differential gene expression analysis, bisulfite sequencing analysis, and Nanopore data exploration and usage. Lectures will be provided on the topics of RNA and Bisulfite sequencing, Epigenetics, and basic statistics, and followed by hands-on sessions.
Finally, we will showcase a Galaxy Docker installation for customized workflow analysis.

Topics:

  • Introduction to Galaxy RNA-workbench and Docker
  • Introduction to Epigenetics
  • Differential Gene Expression Analysis
  • Bisulfite Sequencing Data Analysis
  • Nanopore Sequencing

    Prerequisites:

This workshop is intended for MSc/PhD students, postdocs, and researchers with a background in life science research. During registration, please hand over a poster about a research topic of your choosing. Posters will be presented during our poster session, that you can use to exchange experiences with other researchers.

    About de.STAIR:

The variety of RNA-Seq study designs and characteristic properties of studied organisms greatly affect bioinformatics analysis. As part of the RNA Bioinformatics center (RBC), which supports all RNA-related research within de.NBI (www.denbi.de), de.STAIR summarizes the expertise of participating laboratories to develop and maintain an flexible RNA-Seq analysis workbench for different RNA-Seq protocols, to be used locally or in a cloud environment as provided by the open source Galaxy platform for biomedical research.
